Android may be activating 300k devices a day, Nokia may still rule the cellphone industry in numbers, RIM may still show off its enterprise hold, but the numbers are clear. Apple has emerged as the largest mobile manufacturer in the world in terms of revenue generated. Last year, Steve Jobs referred to Apple as ‘largest mobile device company’, and the claim can no longer be refuted.
In its last earnings report, Apple reported a record quarter (interms of both, Revenue and Profits), but whats worth noting is the $10.7 billion that iPhone and iPhone accessory sales brought in! While thats scarily close to almost 50% of Apple’s revenues (we would save that for another day), it is higher than Nokia’s $9.7 bln from its Devices and Services business.
Apple has taken the iOS upwards to the iPad and also integrated the App Store on the Mac now. The company never looked so strong ever before. There is still plenty of steam in the mobile market for growth and Apple is sure on the forefront. With iPhone dominating the highend cellphone market, the industry looks up to Apple every June/July for ‘whats next’! Will Cupertino continue the momentum with its 2011 launches? The Verizon iPhone (CDMA) is sure to add a lot more steam, but if the iPhone 5 clicks, it would surely mean a jackpot for Apple investors.
